Who's Charlie?

When I'm not working in and around Warrington, training clients, coaching them towards there goals, I enjoy keeping active myself and being outdoors, particularly in the hills. My main 'pastime' is running, particularly Ultra running (generally an event longer than 26miles is considered an ultra) I enjoy the excitement of travelling to a new place, meeting new people and good friends alike and doing a bit (aka a lot) of running. The sense of achievement you can get from completing a goal can be simply amazing! I love to challenge my abilities and I am always seeking out the next goal!

I used to focus more on the rock climbing than anything, when it was too wet for that hiking was a good alternative. Whilst I lived in New Zealand I did a lot of the trails and tracks, mainly walking but with bits of running here and there, never really considered myself a runner! Gradually I became able to run more and more and started to enjoy running, progression was good and kept me motivated along with booking my first race (the Gobi Challenge - you could say entering a 6 day 150mile race across a desert would be 'in at the deep end'?) From there I got to know of heaps of single day ultra races around the UK and set about ticking some of them off, regularly placing in the top 10 and bagging a couple of wins at varying distances.

I train pretty much every day with something or other, I might just have a couple of easy runs to and from work, or a quick bodyweight circuit on days where I don't find time for anything more. Maybe I am addicted to the post workout 'high' and sense of achievement feeling? I tend to focus on bodyweight training methods for myself, although I have no gymnastics background I'm enjoying working towards new movements and building my strength, combined with the rock climbing. Although I enjoy Muay Thai kick boxing and MMA, I find it difficult to train regularly with the level of running I am doing, in the future? Who knows!?
